Miniature Convention
Betty's Bay
5 - 9 September 2016
Academy instructors Elga Koster and Lisa Martens attended and taught at the Miniatures Convention in Betty's Bay, hosted by the Miniaturia Guild of Cape Town.
Betty's Bay is a quaint seaside village renowned for its scenery and penguin colony and plays host to the annual Convention which attracts miniaturists from all over South Africa. The convention offers a wide variety of classes for miniaturists of all skill levels. An auction of items donated by attendees was held on the Tuesday night, with part of the proceeds going towards a scholarship fund, while on Thursday a sales evening is held and the public are invited to have a look at what has been made at the convention. Elga taught 2 classes, a Regency Gothic Firescreen and a Queen Anne Writing chair, while Lisa taught a Knole Sofa and attended some of the classes on offer. Please visit the convention page here, to have a look at more photographs. |

Recently, one of our members, Elga Koster, submitted 5 pieces for artisanship status with the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) and we are very proud to announce that at 2am this morning she received an email confirming that she has been awarded artisanship in the category of Furniture.
All pieces are made from scratch using hard woods, with period appropriate joinery methods and all the brass hardware is handmade. They are all completely original, not made from an existing plan or kit, per the IGMA rules.
