The inaugural meeting of the Academy of South African Miniaturists was held on 24 January 1998 in Germiston. The first Workshop was held on the 28th February 1998 at Berario which has been the Academy's permanent venue ever since. The Founding Committee Members were Ken Nolan, Rudy Geyser, Tom Rimbault and Richard Wood. Some 40 members signed up in the first month.
The Academy was formed to promote the advancement of the miniature craft in South Africa, offering workshops in advanced miniature woodworking techniques, as well as teaching skills in other areas of miniature making, such as soft furnishing, fimo and paper crafts. |
